Instagram gets most of the attention, but a lot of real conversations happen in WhatsApp and Telegram groups. Sharing your Ask link there works well, as long as you do it in a way that does not feel like spam. This guide covers where to post, how to word it, and when to stop.

Know the room before you post

A link dropped in a group of forty people who barely know you reads very differently from the same link in a group of close friends. Before posting, ask yourself whether the people in the group would plausibly want to ask you something. A class group, a football team chat or a friends group usually works. A work group with your manager in it or a large community group with strict rules usually does not.

Post once, with a reason to click

The best group posts give people a reason. Compare:

  • "Ask me anything: (link)" is easy to scroll past.
  • "I am answering anonymous questions about studying abroad this week. Ask whatever you were too shy to ask: (link)" has a topic and a time frame.

A topic helps people think of a question. A time frame removes the feeling that the link will sit there forever. Say clearly that the questions are anonymous, because that is the main reason people will use it. If you want to know how anonymity works for the person asking, how to stay anonymous when sending questions explains it.

Use the right tool in each app

In WhatsApp, paste the link into the group or send it as a status so contacts can open it without searching for it. In Telegram, you can pin the message in a group where you are allowed to, or add the link to your channel description. In both apps the link shows a preview card when the platform can fetch it, so check how the preview looks before you rely on it.

Do not pressure people

Never tag everyone and ask them to ask you something. People who feel pushed tend to send low-effort or joking questions, and some will leave the group. Offer the link once, answer what arrives, and post a reminder only when you have something new to say, such as a batch of fresh answers.

Keep the replies good

Group sharing brings a burst of questions from people who know you. Answer them in your own voice and skip the ones that are only meant to embarrass someone. If a question crosses a line, you can delete it, and blocking and reporting are there when you need them. The advice in how to answer anonymous questions without oversharing applies even more when the audience is people you know offline.

The short version

  • Share only in groups where people would genuinely want to ask you something.
  • Give a topic and a time frame instead of a bare link.
  • Say that questions are anonymous.
  • Post once, do not tag people, and remind only when you have new answers.
  • Answer in your own voice and skip questions meant to embarrass.
