Public or Private Profile? A Simple Way to Choose
Should your Qerios profile be public or private? A decision guide based on your goals, audience, age and comfort level, with a trial approach if you are unsure.
There is no universally correct answer to whether your profile should be public or private. The right choice depends on what you want from your account. Asking a few honest questions gets you there faster than any rule.
Question 1: Who do you want to reach?
If you want strangers to discover you, because you are building an audience, sharing creative work or running something public, a public account makes sense. If you want to talk with friends, classmates or family, a private one fits better, since those people can ask to follow you and you can approve them.
Question 2: What kind of things will you answer?
Personal answers about your feelings, relationships or school are better kept to people you know. General answers about hobbies, tips or opinions are lower risk in public. If you are unsure, think about whether you would be comfortable with the answer being read by a teacher, a future employer or a stranger.
Question 3: How old are you?
Younger users benefit from private accounts by default. They reduce the chance that strangers see personal answers and make it easier to avoid unwanted attention. If you are a parent reading this, see talking to your teen about anonymous apps.
Question 4: How do you feel about attention?
Public accounts can bring many questions, which is exciting and sometimes overwhelming. Private accounts bring fewer and more familiar ones. If you do not like surprises, start private.
What is the same on both
Even on a private account, your name, photo, bio and counts are visible, and people can still send you questions through your Ask link. The difference is who can read your answers, replies and sketches. Private accounts on Qerios lists exactly what changes.
A trial approach
You can switch between the two. A sensible path is to start private, answer for a few weeks, then review. If you find you want a wider audience, open the account. If you switch to public, check old answers first, since they become visible too. Pin the best ones as described in pin your best answers and use hashtags.
If you want fewer questions, not less visibility
Visibility and volume are separate. If your problem is too many questions rather than too many viewers, use the controls in control your Qerios inbox.
The short version
- Public suits audience building; private suits friends and personal answers.
- Younger users should start private.
- Name, photo, bio and counts are visible either way.
- You can switch later; review old answers before going public.
